Face Your Fears: Tales of Transformation from the Phoenix Team

This Halloween, we’re not just celebrating costumes and candy, we’re honouring courage. The kind that whispers “you can do this” when the path ahead is foggy. The kind that helps you face your fears, take the leap, and never look back.

Here are three tales from our Phoenix team, stories of bold career changes, personal growth, and the magic that happens when you trust yourself.

🧙‍♀️ Frankie: From Pumpkin Patch Mentor to HR Sorcerer

Frankie once worked directly with students across alternative education settings — guiding, supporting, and nurturing growth. But the rhythm was relentless, and the need for change grew louder.

“I was nervous about stepping into unfamiliar territory,” Frankie admits. “But I was pleasantly surprised by how many of my skills were transferable.”

The leap into an office-based HR Admin role brought stability, balance, and a fresh sense of purpose. Frankie now conjures onboarding magic, brews up brilliant policies, and casts spells of organisation — all while keeping the heart of a mentor.

“The biggest ‘monster’ I had to face was the fear of leaving behind a role I knew so well. But I’ve found new energy, new opportunities, and a healthier balance. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Frankie’s advice? “Trust yourself and take the leap. Growth often begins with uncertainty.”

🏚️ Debby: From Nursery to Nightfall

In a quiet village, Debby worked in a cheerful nursery — surrounded by glitter and giggles. But deep down, she dreamed of something more.

One Halloween night, she found a dusty book titled “The Heart of the Home.” It shimmered with stories of children in crisis and leaders who rose from humble beginnings. That night, Debby stepped into the unknown.

“I faced storms of doubt and eerie silences from those who didn’t believe in me,” she recalls. “But I pressed on.”

Years later, Debby now manages Hill Haven — a children’s home filled with laughter, healing, and transformation. The book sits on her desk, a reminder of where it all began.

“Even in the darkest season, light can rise.”

⚖️ Beccy: From Barrister to Headteacher

Beccy’s journey began in the courtroom, navigating criminal and civil litigation. But a deeper calling tugged at her — one rooted in education and impact.

“I feared leaving behind something I’d spent five years studying,” Beccy shares. “But I knew I wanted to make a greater difference.”

She transitioned into teaching, discovered the joy of working with pupils with additional needs, and now leads Petherton Park School within Phoenix.

“I get asked all the time if I regret the change. I can honestly say it’s exceeded my expectations.”

Beccy’s story is a testament to the power of purpose, and the bravery it takes to follow it.

🕯️ A Spell for the Brave

If we could cast one spell this Halloween, it would be Clarity & Courage, to quiet the noise of self-doubt, illuminate your strengths, and gently nudge you out of your comfort zone.

Because fear isn’t the end of the story, it’s often the beginning of something extraordinary.
