Job Title: Payroll Administrator
Job Location: Tiverton, Devon
Salary: £12.71 per hour, working 16 hours per week across four days (Monday–Thursday)
Contract Type: 9 Month Fixed Term Contract
We’re looking for someone with strong administrative skills and hands‑on payroll experience to join our busy, friendly team. If you enjoy variety, like being involved in work that touches every part of a business, and take real pride in accuracy, you could be just who we’re looking for.
In this role, you’ll support our Payroll team across both our care and education services, giving you exposure to the full scope of a diverse and multifaceted organisation. Using your experience as a payroll administrator, you’ll help ensure new starter and leaver information is processed correctly, expenses and mileage claims are accurate, and all activity meets statutory and company requirements. You’ll work closely with our Payroll Officer and Payroll Manager, collaborating with operational teams, people services, and central support colleagues to deliver a consistently high‑quality payroll service.
If you thrive in a fast‑paced environment, enjoy getting stuck in from day one, and want to make a meaningful contribution to a team that values your expertise, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
A day in the life of a Payroll Administrator will involve:
- Supporting the Payroll Officer and Payroll Manager with a range of administrative duties, including processing starters, leavers, contractual changes, and resetting team‑member credentials.
- Checking, processing, and accurately inputting mileage and expenses claims, ensuring appropriate authorisation and compliance with internal procedures.
- Reviewing cost centres and payroll schedules for accuracy, maintaining compliance with Data Protection and GDPR while providing general support to the wider payroll team.
To be a successful Payroll Administrator you’ll need:
- Proven experience in a similar administrative role, with strong organisational and time management.
- Strong IT skills, with solid experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. You’ll be confident working with Power BI, interpreting pivot tables, and managing and combining data accurately.
- A hands-on approach, ready to tackle tasks with a positive attitude. Strong communication skills and a collaborative, approachable mindset.
If return for your time, you’ll get:
- Holidays – You’ll get 28 days annual leave including bank holidays.
- Pension scheme– Our pension scheme is based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
- Learning & Development Opportunities – We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
- Discounts – You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Card and our own employee benefits platform.
- Wellbeing Support – Your wellbeing is always our priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support. On top of this, our therapies team offers a six weekly confidential check in clinic, and group reflective practice sessions.
- Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
- DBS – As this role required you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.
- After 12 months service - You’ll also be eligible for our Medicash scheme which covers a wide range of medical, health and wellbeing expenses (Including immediate access to a GP!). You’ll get life assurance paid at x2 your annual salary.
Please note that as part of our safer recruitment processes, successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check, and online and social media checks, and reference validation.
