Job Title: College Caterer
Job Location: Oakwood Specialist College, Yate
Salary: £13.13 per hour, working 30 hours per week, 39.6 weeks per year.
Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time
We believe that nutritious, well-balanced meals are essential to helping our learners thrive both in and out of the classroom. We're looking for a dedicated and passionate Caterer to join our team and play a key role in supporting our learners’ health, wellbeing, and ability to focus on learning whilst at College.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for preparing and serving fresh, healthy meals each day. If you take pride in cooking with purpose and enjoy contributing to a supportive, learner focused environment, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.
A day in the life of a College Caterer will involve:
- Plan and prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for learners, ensuring they meet healthy eating guidelines and are served safely and hygienically in line with Food Standards Agency guidance.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen equipment, and dining areas, consistently adhering to health and safety policies and regulations.
- Provide a supportive and welcoming environment during break and lunch times by building positive relationships with learners and working closely with Team Members.
- Manage supplies and kitchen operations, including ordering ingredients, monitoring fridge/freezer temperatures, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Support the development of young people, especially those on work experience in the kitchen, while adhering to safeguarding responsibilities and participating in ongoing training.
To be a successful College Caterer, you’ll need to:
- Previous experience of working in a kitchen or catering setting, with a Food Hygiene qualification, and Level 2 literacy and numeracy preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A strong work ethic, professionalism, and resilience, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
