    Job Location: Oakwood Specialist College, Dawlish

    Salary: £11.44 per hour, working 24 hours per week, 39.6 weeks per year.

    Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

     

    Are you a reliable and hardworking team player who thrives in a busy kitchen environment? We’re looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our team and play a key role in keeping our kitchen clean, organised, and running smoothly. Your work will ensure that meals are prepared and served efficiently, helping to create a positive experience for both team members and learners.

    At Oakwood College, we know that a well-maintained kitchen is essential to providing quality meals and a welcoming environment. You’ll be responsible for washing dishes, keeping kitchen areas spotless, assisting with food service, and making sure hygiene and safety standards are met. You’ll work closely with team members, that take pride in the care and service we provide.

    A day in the life of a Kitchen Porter will involve:

    • Keep the kitchen spotless – Wash dishes, clean kitchen areas, and ensure high hygiene standards in all catering outlets.
    • Support daily operations – Assist with meal deliveries, clearing food, maintaining stock, and handling kitchen equipment.
    • Be a team player – Work closely with colleagues and learners, supporting them in the kitchen and fostering a welcoming environment.
    • Follow safety and compliance – Adhere to health, safety, and safeguarding policies while ensuring equipment and materials are used correctly.

     

    To be a successful Kitchen Porter, you’ll need to:

    • Previous experience in a kitchen or catering setting, with a Food Hygiene qualification and Level 2 literacy and numeracy preferred.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • A strong work ethic, professionalism, and resilience, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
